HUMANITY GONE
Prog Metal Trio from Tampa FL.
Humanity Gone is a three-piece progressive metal band originating from Tampa, FL. Their hallmark style is heavy and melodic, with complexity that reveals new details with every listen. They accomplish this by building soundscapes using progressive elements such as odd time signatures, expansive instrumental sections, and an interplay between instruments. Lyrically, they conceptualize the human experience, focusing on the internal struggle within and the external chaos beyond individual control. Uniquely, their drummer, Angelo Rivera, is also the lead singer. Thelmo Rego, the band’s sole guitarist, brings crushing riffs and complex solos, while retaining a melodic ambience. Matt Howard, the bass player, ties everything together with his powerful bass tones, locking in with the drum rhythms while simultaneously creating melody and atmosphere all his own.
The band formed in early 2020, and began rehearsing, writing, and preparing the material which would become their debut album, a very ambitious and progressive full length concept record written around the theme of the seven deadly sins. They not only wrote the album but also self-produced and self-released it on January 16th, 2021.
The bands second album, Everything Nothing will be released on June 7th, 2024.
Our music is all about high-energy progressive Metal with a flare for the dramatic . We want to get people moshing and moving with our catchy guitar riffs and driving beats. Our lyrics are often about the sign of the times, what lies ahead and the struggles of everyday life.
We pride ourselves on putting on an incredible live show. We love to engage with our audience and make them feel like they're a part of the performance.

Tampa-based three piece progressive metal act Humanity Gone has seemingly been shot out of a cannon and have hit the ground running with their debut album "The Seven Deadly Sins", out January 16th, 2021 wherever you buy your digital music. The band formed in early 2020 and began putting together the material which would become their debut release, a full length concept record written around the theme of the seven deadly sins. A pretty ambitious project for a new band, and something even more seasoned bands never dare to attempt. Humanity Gone are Angelo Rivera, who fills the rather unusual role of drummer and lead singer. The band's guitarist Thelmo Rego plays some tasty riffs and fairly complex solos. Rounding out the trio is Matt Howard, who's bass locks it all in while simultaneously creating a melody and atmosphere all his own.
Upon my first listen to "The Seven Deadly Sins" I was more than impressed with these musicians and I'm here to tell you that the guys in Humanity Gone sound like they've been together for many years. What I hear from them are elements of Tool, Megadeth, P.O.D. and early Metallica, while at the same time sounding nothing like those bands. They bring equal doses of heavy and melody, with an interesting combination of both simple and complex song structures that create a truly interesting soundscape. Syncopated rhythms and dark, haunting undertones filled my speakers and I couldn't get enough!
I generally break down my reviews by my favorite songs but with concept albums I feel it's best to rate the work as a whole piece of art. "The Seven Deadly Sins" concept is interesting and the writing is a real strong aspect of this band. Humanity Gone displays a maturity that more seasoned bands often lack, and the musicianship of a band well beyond their experience as a trio. These guys are professionals and the hard work and talent shine brightly on "The Seven Deadly Sins". If you want a truly awesome metal album to start 2021 off on the right foot I highly recommend you check out this new release from Humanity Gone. These guys are fantastic and I guarantee you won't regret grabbing a copy.

When the guys in Humanity Gone sent me their newest album I knew I had to buckle my seatbelt and settle in for a unique experience. This Tampa-based three-piece never seems to phone it in and they are always trying to push themselves to another level both creatively and sonically. Humanity Gone have done it again with their second album "Everything Nothing", out … wherever you buy your digital music. Listening to the album is a little hard to describe. These guys don't have a style that is easy to define and that's pretty admirable in my book. Humanity Gone is Angelo Rivera, who drums and sings and I have no Idea how he does it. Thelmo Rego is the axe man and his guitar skills are ever evolving. Last but not least Matt Howard locks in the bottom end with his thunderous bass lines.
Before we get too deep into this review I will tell you what musical influences my ear hears when listening to this band. The songs have the epic feeling and complexity of “…Rust in Peace'' era Megadeth. I'm hearing vocal inflections of early Queensryche. There's a dash of Burton era Metallica, a quarter cup of Tool and a tablespoon of P.O.D.
Listening to “Everything Nothing” is like eating a complex meal cooked by a skilled chef. You might not know what all the ingredients are but it's definitely not McDonald's drive thru. The experience is satisfying yet challenging. “Hey, is there a hint of cinnamon in here”? This album has a dash of cinnamon alright, among other spices, and it's very satisfying to digest. It's really hard to even pick out what songs to highlight in this review because they are all a journey worth taking. Lots of transitions and technical skills are on display and it's an album you have to digest multiple times to fully absorb it.
With “Evening Nothing”, Humanity Gone have delivered a heavy dose of grit with some floor shaking bottom end that is both aggressive yet somehow restrained. The experience is beautiful yet ugly. The record is jam packed with simple riffs and rhythmic patterns assembled in a surprisingly complex manner. If you are into rock and metal then I would definitely grab this album. You will be glad you took the challenge. This band isn't for the faint of heart, but there are enough familiar sounds to pull in the fans of rock and metal no matter where your tastes normally take you.
